Smallmouth? Largemouth? Fly fisherman may prefer those larger species of Bass. If I am ever angling in Texas’ fast-flowing rivers, I try to get a Guadalupe Bass on my hook. The olive fish may not be over 3 pounds, but you can hook them at all levels of water. Since they battle the currents, they will fight harder than a lot of the other Texan Bass, making them worthy of being the Lone Star State's official fish. However, you won’t be able to keep your prize in most waters. Catch and release is now the norm. But this one piece can be your proof of victory!
The Guadalupe Bass is extremely similar to the Smallmouth Bass and in most cases are hybrids of the two. Hybridization is this particular species only threat. Other than that the Guadalupe Bass could very well thrive in its native Texan rivers. Show some love with this fishing Romper for this especially rare type of Bass.
