The Great Smokey Mountains, the Grand Ole Opry, Jack Daniels: all great things from Tennessee. Yet none of these rival the beauty of the Tennessee Dace (sorry Jack). This one piece fails to capture its splendor. Small in stature, they are tiny scaled. These scales are a multitude of warm colors, yet all have a signature scarlet belly. You wouldn’t try to angle for one, but its population is in such a decline that even an accidental hit would be extremely rare. Tennessee’s river systems may lose one of their best as only 40 populations are known to exist.
Everyone at Gill McFinn’s would love to pour one out for the Tennessee Dace. We think a shot of Jack Daniels would be appropriate in tribute to this fish on the decline. For all you Dace lovers out there, this fishing Romper can be your version of a tribute. Their populations are dropping even with conversation efforts and a threatened categorization. The crew of the Frankie Anne III is hoping that this small warm colored wonder will be doing the Tennessee Waltz in the rivers for years to come!
